The Board of Directors of the Humane Society of Wickenburg would like to introduce you to Scott Shephard, our Executive Director as of late October 2014.

While this is Scott’s first connection to Animal Welfare, he loves animals and certainly has a true heart for our mission. He has acquired a great deal of managerial experience in the private sector as well as nonprofit organizations, including as the Director of Volunteer Services for St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance in Phoenix, the largest food bank volunteer operation in the United States. He is a seasoned administrator who excels in creating a culture of communication, a constructive environment and complete teamwork.

Also, over the last twenty-plus years, Scott has held positions as General Manager, Operations Manager and Vice President of Marketing and Operations. Most recently he served as Executive Director for the Yarnell Community Center where he received several recognitions including the Director’s Award of Excellence for Outstanding Service from the Area Agency on Aging/Northern Arizona Council of Governments, a Certificate of Appreciation from State of Arizona Emergency Management and a citation for his managerial contribution towards the relief efforts of the Yarnell Hill Fire of 2013 from the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors.

We hope that you will stop by the shelter and introduce yourself to Scott.  We are confident in his effective management of all aspects of our shelter and are pleased he is the Executive Director of our Humane Society of Wickenburg.

Feral Cat Season is Here - Now that cooler weather is here HSW has resumed its TNR (trap-neuter-return) for feral (wild) and unowned cats in our community.  If you know of, or are feeding, one of these cats please contact the shelter.  This week we have already trapped two cats, with an appointment for one more tomorrow.  Since 2010, 430 cats have been TNR'd.  This program equals a lot less reproducing cats, healthier cats, less cat yowling and less cat marking.  "It is a good thing."

If you would like to donate to this program, please send your donation to HSW, 4000 Industrial Road, Wickenburg, AZ  85390 and make a notation that you would like your money to be used for the Feral Cat Program or TNR.

This is Rosie.  She is a happy 6.5 year old Terrier/Pit Bull Mix.  She has been with us for 3 years and would so love to find someone to go home with.  She does need to go to a family without children and would be happiest being an only child.

Give a Senior Cat or Dog a Second Chance

Take a few minutes to view a wonderful video filmed at our shelter a few years ago by Barbara and David Gross.  It stars many former and current volunteers of HSW.  As you watch the video please remember that we are a "no-kill" shelter.    The age of a pet is but a number, - just as it is for humans.  Don't let an animal's "older" age deter you from opening your heart to your new best friend.

Wish List for the Shelter - Please check out "Helping Us" and our Wish List page found under that heading.  If you would like to purchase items to help us at the Shelter.  Any and all of those items are needed on a regular basis.  Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Items we always need include:

kitten chow                                                            puppy chow

paper towels                                                         liquid hand soap

dish soap                                                              dishwasher soap

HE laundry detergent                                          30 gallon garbage  bags
